Matcha Sifter

Fine mesh sifter for breaking up clumps before whisking. The difference between a smooth and a lumpy bowl.

Category:

A fine mesh sifter used to break up clumps before whisking. Because matcha is naturally prone to compacting, sifting helps create a smoother mixture and more even foam.

Place the desired amount of tea into the sifter and press it through with the bamboo scoop or a small spoon before adding water. This small step noticeably improves texture and consistency.

Simple but worthwhile, especially for those preparing matcha regularly.

Care

Tap the frame firmly against your palm after use to clear the mesh, then brush the underside with a dry pastry brush if powder has compacted into the weave.

Keep water away from the join between mesh and frame. It is the one place moisture collects and cannot easily escape, and on a fine mesh that means rust or a loosened seal.

If it does need washing, rinse quickly, shake out thoroughly and leave it mesh-side down to dry completely before storing.

Never press matcha through with anything harder than a spoon — a stretched mesh sifts unevenly and cannot be trued again.
