Bamboo Scoop

$14.00

The traditional measuring scoop. One full scoop is roughly 1 gram — the right dose for a single bowl of usucha.

Category:

The chashaku is the traditional bamboo scoop used to measure matcha. Hand-shaped from a slender piece of bamboo, it offers a simple and precise way to portion tea.

One full scoop measures approximately 1 gram of matcha. Two scoops is a standard starting point for a bowl of usucha, with additional scoops used for stronger preparations.

Lightweight and understated, it remains one of the most practical tools in traditional matcha preparation.

Care

Do not wash it. A chashaku is carved from a single piece of bamboo and is not meant to meet water at all.

Wipe the bowl of the scoop with a dry cloth after use. That is the whole routine.

Soaking or washing raises the grain, and repeated wetting will eventually crack the bamboo along its length — most commonly right at the bend, which is the thinnest and most stressed point.

Store it dry and flat, away from direct sun.
